“Everybody is on a team because they have some talent, everybodys here for a reason. As a hitter you just go out and try to get a pitch to hit.”
It’s a simple approach for a complicated game filled with failure and frustration. Successful hitters fail seven out of 10 times.
But because baseball and softball are games filled with failure, also try to maintain optimism while keeping your mind off recent struggles.
Just go out to have fun. We are playing a game and that’s what we try and get across to the kids. And what you did yesterday doesn’t matter today. And what you did in your last at-bat, doesn’t matter in this at-bat.”
Hitters seem to be more successful when they are loose, and GSA tries to find ways to keep our hitters loose. It isn’t always easy.
“Baseball is a long grind-it-out process,” Cranford said.
And part of that grind is hours upon hours of work in the batting cage. Work comes first.
“When we are in the cage, we are serious and there to get (work) done, but when we are done and we have a little bit of tme, there is some time for fun.”
“Just keep things simple, give me one quality at-bat per day, if you can do that collectively as a group, you are going to have a chance to win.
